Argh! I spoke too soon. I am really not seeing the images now. 🙁

Ok, I changed file permissions to 755 and it’s displaying. what should the permissions be on uploads/yyyy/mm/filename.jpg? Should it be 777? That seems unsafe!
I got it. Added the following.
.nivo-caption {display:none !important;}
