In this interview, she mentioned that she has studied information technology combined with Business Management, also she talked about how she learned different programming language including HTML, CSS, Java, C, VB, MYSQL, and more.
Before WordPress I was a student at the Catholic University of Zimbabwe. I was studying Information Technology combined with Business Management. During this time I learnt a bunch of programming languages including Java, VB, C, PHP, HTML, CSS, MySQL.
In my third year I had to get a mandatory internship that was inline with what I was studying, at that time our country had a very high employment rate so I ended up settling for a web designing internship with a local company. I was mostly using Joomla then.
Q. How did you get to know about WordPress? Share if there is an interesting story
A When I started university I knew about WordPress but I just wasn’t using it, it wasn’t very popular at school. My interest in WP started when I saw a purple WooCommerce pen. Q. What’s the most interesting project you have done to date in WordPress? What were your responsibilities?
A The most interesting project I’ve been part of so far is contributing to WP core as a Release Co-ordinator cohort for version 5.6. . My responsibilities in short included facilitating dev-chats and release candidates and also taking notes during dev-chats.
Q. Have you ever been to any WordPress meetups or WordCamps? Share your thoughts on WordPress Community.
A I’ve been to a couple of WordCamps and meetups, I think the WordPress community is the most welcoming and worth joining community in the world. People are welcoming and very helpful, majority of the stuff I’ve learnt was because someone helped me out.
Q. What does your workstation look like?
A I don’t really have a workstation, I just work wherever I feel comfortable. I usually work from my bed, sofa, and sometimes a small desk.
Q. What interesting feature do you think you would like to see in WordPress and is currently missing?
A I saw a post on twitter about the possibility of having WordPress Stories, almost similar to Instagram stories. I think that would be a nice feature to have, I think it was a post/project https://twitter.com/helenhousandi was working on.
Q. Out of the current plugins and themes which one do you like the most and why?
A Elementor has always been my go-to page builder plugin, it’s very easy to use, and I didn’t experience a lot of cache issues when l was using it.
When I was designing site’s, Zakra was my go-to theme, and this theme is built on Elementor of course haha
Q. Any awesome technology you want to share other than WordPress?
A Kindle is the best thing ever!
Q. Do you like/love what you currently do in WordPress?
A I recently got a new job where I help user’s with their WordPress sites and I am loving it!!
Q. Where do you find yourself after 5 years
A mmm well I have a few ideas but I don’t want to jinx anything. Just know that it will be something WordPress related
Q. Share something about your life other than work
A I enjoy reading fictional novels online, mostly on my phone.
I also enjoy taking care of my aloe plant
Q. To whom you give credit for your success?
A Even though I’ve heard a couple of people from the WordPress community who mentored me, but, I honestly owe a lot to my Dad for pushing me to follow my dreams.
